DIVERSITY @ NCP CHLORCHEM, CHLOORKOP SITE
NCP Chlorchem’s Diversity Policy states –
“Chlorchem and its employees accept that there are inequalities in the employment demographics of the company and it shall, by means of agreed initiatives and relevant legislation, recognise, value and leverage our differences for competitive advantage. The company shall furthermore encourage an inclusive culture in which everyone understands and values the commonalities and differences among our employees, customers and communities.”
The Company established a Chlorchem Diversity Leadership Team that fully represents the various stakeholders and designated groups. This team, in the quest to achieve the requirements set out in the Divesity Policy, has been fully empowered to put in place various diversity initiatives to reach its equity goals.
One of the major initatives that was put in place was an In-service Trainee Program that has proved to be so successful that the company has been able to increase its complement of black females with more than 50%.
Another initiative that is available to employees is the Full Time Study program. Opportunities are created where, after proper discussion and agreement, employees may study full time at a tertiary institution to obtain a qualification.
Some of the other initiatives that focus on creating a learning environment within the company is the the current development of a pilot mentorship program and providing study assistance to all employees that wish to improve their skills, qualifications and competencies. Currently the Company also has an apprenticeship program in place with four apprentices obtaining their qualifications in instrumentation, electrical and mechanical. Some NQF Chemical Operation Learnership programs have been presented and as the opportunity arise, the company will continue to present these learning opportunities.
The CDLT, through its representation from the various groups, focuses on the creation of an environment of dignity, respect and understanding of all the diverse groups within the Company. This is achieved through sensitizing programs, climate surveys and communication initiatives.
